People of Umuogem villages in Ufuma, Orumba North Local Government Area, Anambra State, are crying out to the Anambra State Government for urgent intervention over the alleged harassment and intimidation by military personnel operating in the community.
Residents of Umuogem, Ufuma town, say their villages are living under fear as soldiers have reportedly taken over major roads and move around with heavy weapons in a manner that has left many people terrified.
According to community members, some villagers have had their phones seized, SIM cards removed, and local traders allegedly ordered when to open and close their shops.
They further claim that armed personnel patrol the villages daily, causing panic among residents who now live in fear for their safety and freedom of movement.
The people are appealing to the Anambra State Government, relevant security agencies, and human rights organizations to urgently investigate the situation and restore peace, justice, and normal life in the affected communities.
Residents say the current situation is negatively affecting businesses, daily activities, and the general well-being of the people.
The people of Umuogem ufuma village have reportedly fled their homes and taken refuge in a neighboring community for safety due to fear and tension caused by the presence of the army and ongoing security operations.
Residents say many families were forced to evacuate in search of peace and protection as the situation in the village became unbearable. Women, children, and elderly people are said to be among those displaced.
The affected people are calling on the Anambra State Government, security agencies, and humanitarian organizations to urgently intervene, restore calm, and ensure the safe return of residents to their homes.
